Boston Medical Center’s MASBIRT Program Honored by The White House

The MASBIRT program was honored by the White House for its innovative approach to screening patients for substance abuse.

Daniel Alford, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and is on staff in the Section of General Internal Medicine, Clinical Addiction Research and Education Unit at Boston Medical Center (BMC) speaks about the MASBIRT program.

The MAssachusetts Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral and Treatment (MASBIRT) Program is a clinical service that utilizes specially trained Health Promotion Advocates to universally screen and help patients with risky or unhealthy drug and alcohol use through brief intervention counseling and facilitated referrals to specialty addiction treatment.
